Shordle — a daily word puzzle played in the dark
Shordle is a free daily word game where the puzzle is
hidden in darkness. You move your cursor (on a computer) or drag your
finger or tilt your phone (on mobile) like a flashlight to reveal five
hidden letters, then guess the secret 5-letter word in six tries
before your 60-second battery runs out. A new puzzle is released every
day and is the same for every player worldwide.
How to play
- Move your flashlight around the screen to find the five hidden letters.
- Letters glow when the light gets close; your battery drains faster while you move.
- Type any valid 5-letter word and submit it — you have six guesses.
-
Green means a letter is in the right spot, yellow means it is in the
word but the wrong spot, and gray means it is not in the word.
- Solve the word within six guesses and before the battery dies to win.
Features
- A new daily 5-letter puzzle, identical for everyone, resetting at midnight UTC.
- A unique flashlight-in-the-dark mechanic with a 60-second battery timer.
- Wordle-style green / yellow / gray hints and a six-guess limit.
- Mobile-first controls including touch and optional gyroscope aiming.
- Installable Progressive Web App that works fully offline.
- Accessibility options: high contrast, colorblind mode, reduced motion, and keyboard navigation.
